It is like calling people monkeys - that's not a statement i disagree with either. Until then i will keep using the only linux distro that achieves these - MAC OS!!!! (and i fucking hate apple with all my heart and soul but in IT having a UNIX based OS comes with too many advantages to just switch to windows)Īt their core they are UNIX based. So to put this simply in a single question: is there any DE out there for linux that can be customizable to have a launcher menu (NOT a full screen app menu like the GNOME default because i am not installing the piece of crap on a phone) that can REMEMBER WINDOW SIZE, POSITION AND DISPLAY, has core communication features fully functional (bluetooth, wifi, etc.) and has a standardised themeing throughout (i think linux seriously lacks this - is it that hard to have a single theme folder for the entire OS that you can share with the sandboxed apps not like themes hold valuable personal data that needs protecting.) and has a working window manager ? I do not mind spending hours, days, weeks getting something i need as long as i do not have to do it again every other update. One of the core functionalities of a DE is window management, is it not? (Is it necessary to mention the lack of theme integration with flatpak and snap? Oh yeah and if you do use a dark theme then some apps become unusable as the tooltips are whiteish text but instead of the background for the tooltip to be dark it is light so themes do not apply properly and this happens on every single DE out there so far) XFCE - the most annoying DE out there - does almost everything great but at the same time it is the absolute dumbest implementation of a DE - who the hell neglects remembering window position for windows? If you use 3 monitors like myself and the laptop monitor is the 4th you spend literally hours a week just moving windows around as they all open on the internal monitor and always at the center of the screen. LXDE - functional from many points of view but looks archaic and lacks some core features.COSMIC - why even talk about it ? It's GNOME !.MATE and CINNAMON - they both feel like like alpha releases of something that would like to be a desktop environment but the goal is quite out of reach. Some devices do not work in this DE although drivers are the same that run on KDE (rotation does not work at all from accelerometer unless using wayland and when it does work you turn the screen right and it rotates it to the left making it upside down - the fix is online for my hardware and takes many many steps to complete but reoccurs after some components get updated) - so this is a breaker as well. GNOME - hate the thing - i have a PC and not a phone - it feels more like a phone UI that you have to clutter with 1000 extensions that DO NOT REALLY WORK as they conflict with each other always at some point sooner or later. Forgetting i have a touchscreen makes KDE somewhat functional at best and applying skins for every flatpak and snap app that looks out of place makes this unusable as i want to download something and start using it not play around with the app for 2 days before it is comfortable to use
